Description
This painting has a huge place in my heart as I am drawn to the sea wherever I go. The ocean has a huge role in Manx and Australian culture, both aboriginal and western.
The melding of these creates an incredible feeling when you visit the shores in Australia. My favourite beach is Shelly in Sydney, NSW which is formed of a nature reserve just around the corner from the bustle of Manly Beach. Here you have the coffee culture meeting the natural and ancient world of sea-creatures in a beautiful way. The Isle of Man has a different relationship with the sea, it brings waves of nostalgia from the Viking days, of fishing boats and harsh conditions. There is a solace and peace about the sea on the Island, which I’ve not found anywhere else. Meeting by the sea here provokes deep conversation and sunset gazing.
